Abstract: Policy developments such as the 2018 Maintaining Internal Systems and Strengthening Integrated Outside Networks Act have transformed where and how veterans receive health care. Veterans’ decisions to seek US Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and/or non-VA health care could be better informed with an understanding of their experiences in each setting. However, no studies have comprehensively described these experiences. In November 2022, we surveyed US adult participants in Ipsos KnowledgePanel1 who self-identified as veterans (response rate, 67.2%) (eMethods in Supplement 1). The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System and University of Utah Institutional Review Boards approved the study. Participants provided written informed consent. We followed AAPOR reporting guideline.
