Abstract: A qualitative study focused on the experiences of young Bedouin Israeli citizens who volunteered to serve in the Israeli Defense Forces. The study aimed to understand the challenges encountered by discharged Bedouin soldiers in their first year following release from complete military service. Thematic analysis revealed three major themes. The first exposed the challenges of entering the labor market following their service. The second disclosed the difficulties encountered when reintegrating into civilian life. The third and final theme focused on the difficulties that they face upon their army discharge, both within their own communities as well as within the broader Israeli society. Study results indicate the need for a specially-tailored transition program: including mechanisms to facilitate integration into the Israeli workforce in high-demand fields and professional support to promote their smooth transition from military service to civilian life in coordination with government ministries, Bedouin society and higher education institutes.
